Read a message from our Walker of the Week – Vanessa Payne, Baltimore:In May of 2009 I started feeling really tired, sick, just not right. Went to lots of doctors and no one ever found anything wrong with me. After a while I just thought I was crazy. People at work thought I just wanted time off work, they looked at me as if I was not sick. Then I went to a skin doctor and as soon as she walked in the room she asked me “DO YOU HAVE LUPUS?” I laughed and said no way! Well she asked if she could do a biopsy on my face where I had a big sore and low and behold it came back positive for Discoid Lupus which led to further testing and I also have SLE lupus! But having found out was just the start of a long road and battle. Let me tell you that rocked my WORLD!! I was scared. I knew nothing about Lupus. I started research and reaching out to people and the first place that reached back was the ALR.Register and join Vanessa and all of our Baltimore walkers: http://bit.ly/M6rtNP

Dr. Paul Utz has always been fascinated by the way proteins trigger a dizzying succession of physical reactions in human cells. So he and fellow researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine began asking some rudimentary questions — Why does one protein hook-up with another? And why are subsequent biological repercussions so significant in disease? Read about how they’re utilizing silicon chips to study proteins as a potentially more effective diagnostic tool. Fundraising

Walk with Us, America.  Join us for the “Walk with U.S., Walk Local Cure Global” virtual fundraising event.  The National Virtual Walk Day is Saturday, December 8, 2012.  You choose your own walk site, gather your friends and family and walk together to join the fight against lupus.   The Virtual Walk doesn’t have to be a Walk.  You can create your own Virtual Fundraising Event.  Have a party, play basketball, whatever you choose. Know that 100% of every dollar raised from your event will directly support lupus research programs because the ALR board of directors funds all adminstrative and fundraising costs.

Send the Alliance for Lupus Research your photo and we will put Mack in it for you to show people that you support lupus awareness and the ALR.  Email your pictures to Mack@LupusResearch.org
